I had an image in my my mind of a white city, with villas surrounded by luscious gardens. I wasn't wrong, but Casablanca has also many buildings in 1920 art decco style built by the french occupiers. Lonely Planets thinks they are worth admiring but I find them depressing; they have been neglected and do not seem to belong here.
We enjoy the walk though; we have ice cream sitting on the sidewalk of a french style cafe, buy french books (very cheap) and speak french with the natives.
